Essential oils have been used as alternative medicine for hundreds of years. These days, we recommend using them as a complementary remedy along with prescribed modern medicine.
Dealing with a stuffed, runny nose? There are some essential oils that may help to open the airways and ease congestion. Plus, they’ll provide soothing aromatherapy experiences. Here are our two favorites:
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree essential oil contains a compound call alpha-sabine which provides antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal effects. Because of these properties tea tree essential oil is often used to help alleviate symptoms of congestion.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary essential oil is another incredible oil for dealing with congestion due to itsanti-inflammatory properties! This oil is also rich in antioxidants.
Feeling congested? Here are a few ways to use rosemary and tea tree essential oils in conjunction to provide soothing relief.
Steam Inhale: Add a few drops of rosemary and tea tree essential oils to a bowl of boiling water and inhale the steam with deep, even breaths. Placing a towel over the head can improve the experience by creating a makeshift steam chamber.
Directly Inhale: Add a few drops of each oil to the palm of your hand. Cup both hands together and gently breathe in from your cupped hands.
Diffuse: Essential oil diffusers work to disperse oil into the air. This is a gentle yet effective method of inhaling the essential oils in your home or office space and still benefit from the therapeutic properties of the oils.
Bath: Add a few drops of both oils directly to your warm bath water and gently inhale while soaking. Tip: Add in 1-2 tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil to your bath water to help further soothe skin allover the body. Nourishing the entire body when sick can do wonders!
